About

We are Kyle and Erin.  I am Erin, the author.  Kyle is the builder.  I guess you could say that we are both the artists.

Our current “house project” sits two blocks from the beach on the North Oregon Coast.  We bought our 1920’s “gem” three years ago, tore it down to the studs, and have been re-building it ever since.  The process has been arduous, eye-opening, and, at times, kinda fun.  The fun part has been what we have learned through it all.  Being the conscientious, earth-loving, ocean frolicking folks that we are, completing this project as green as possible was a top priority.  Using primarily reclaimed, reused and up-cycled materials, we have created a dwelling place full of character, art, and history.

This blog is dedicated to sharing information, project ideas, and offering inspiration for those interested in green building and remodeling.  When he is not working on our home, Kyle is running his own business here on the Oregon Coast, Shelter Construction.  He is a contractor specializing in fine carpentry and tile work.  His meticulous artistry extends into his everyday work, making every project that he works on a masterpiece of fine wood working and skill.

When I am not writing for our local Alternative Newspaper, HIPFISHmonthly (and a variety of other publications), or creating reclaimed wood jewelry to be sold at a local boutique art gallery called Found, I am chasing two little boys around, ages 2 and 4.

So, this is us.  Enjoy our space and thanks for stopping by.DSCF2682
